Topographic Chef - Sugi Pine
Topographic Chef - Sugi Pine
Large chef’s knife forged from house-made damascus of reclaimed bandsaw steel and 1080 high-carbon steel. Topographic pattern. Full, tapered tang for balance and control. Built for demanding kitchen work with refined performance.
The Topographic series is inspired by the southern Appalachian landscape we call home—shaped by water and time. Each knife records its forging, holding the marks of heat, pressure, and season.
The beautiful Sugi, or Japanese Cedar, used on this handle was gifted to me by a couple students Shaun & Lundie Fleming, a mom and son who made their way to TN from Maui. D.T. Fleming was Lundie’s great, great uncle and was a conservationist who worked on reforestation projects in West Maui in the early 1900’s. This is one of the tree’s he planted among a grove. The dying tree’s were harvested in 2002 by the family and a block of this wood was gifted to me in early 2024.
